Thursday At Fridays

Every other Thursday, my 3 1/2 year old son and I have a "date night".  Well, technically depending on what we decide to do, it can be anywhere from Thursday until Sunday.  We've gone to "The Little Treehouse" in Chestnut Hill, The Academy of Natural Sciences, the movies and for the last two "dates" we've gone out to dinner.  I love the time for the obvious reason of spending time with my son (usually, just the two of us), but it also exposes him to different things, teaches him how to behave in different environments other than home, school and the playground, and usually gives me a break from cooking and our evening routine.  Well, tonight, my son accidentally invited my godson.  It wasn't a big deal, but I actually do love our time together.

Two weeks ago, you may remember that we went to Chili's. I was able to get a salad and steamed broccoli and carrots along with my protein bar that I brought with me and it was a great food outing. Anyway, I have to say that as a person who has dietary restrictions when it comes to how others prepare my food (no salt, fats, sugars, etc.), Chili's was a much better experience than TGI Fridays, which was where we went tonight.  I'm swearing off of protien bars for at least a month, so they were not available, just in case.  I did my usual, "can I alter your menu in this way" and after I picked my mouth up off of the floor when I was told that they did not serve baked potatoes (only two types of mashed potatoes!), I thought that I would be enjoying an unseasoned grilled chicken on a house salad with balsamic vinegar.  What I got was the pre-made grilled chicken that they must use for maybe a Cobb salad that was totally seasoned.

I have a real phobia, especially after I have spent so much time questioning the staff about what they can and can't do, with sending back the food...I just really imagine some nasty, nasty things!!!!  So, I decided that I would just chalk this up to making the best choice I could  but you know what, I couldn't eat all of the chicken.  It was just too damn salty for my new salt-sensitive palate.  I was amazed that I have reached a place where I would pick through chicken to eat salad!  Whodathunkit?

I'm really proud of me.  No protein bars and turning down food.  There's hope for us all!

In other news: I think I might have started a ZUMBA revolution in my office as lots of people are interested in taking classes.  I'll take my first one tomorrow.  I'm going to try to take some pics but I'm going this one alone, so I don't know.  Check back tomorrow to see how I did.
